Tips for Buying Your Mobility Vehicle

Posted by anonymous on January 21, 2010 at 2:53 PM

Do as much research as you can. You can find a lot of information online about the type of Mobility Vehicle and Handicap Modification you are looking for. Check manufactures websites like Braun Ability, VMI or Vantage Mobility and Viewpoint Mobility for additional information.

Do a vehicle history report. There are several websites that you can check the vehicles history report on. Get a free VIN check from Auto Check.  When you search Mobility Van Trader's Online Wheelchair Van Classifieds and find a Handicap Van you are interested in, ask the seller as much as you can about the vehicle. You can get information directly from the seller to know if this vehicle and modification are right for you. Ask for receipts or proof of past work and maintenance done to the Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.  See and try the Mobility Vehicle before you buy. It is always best to try before you buy. Look at the vehicles condition, inside and out. Check for exterior scratches and dents and don't be afraid to ask if the vehicle was ever in an accident. Check the interior carpet condition and side panels. Look in the engine compartment and underneath if possible for leaks.

Check the Handicap Van Conversion and operation. If it is equipped with a Power Ramp, Power Door, Kneeling System, Lift, etc., operate these functions several times and make sure all manual back up operations are functional. Be sure you can properly enter the Mobility Van and fit comfortably inside and that the van is equipped with a Wheelchair Tie Down System and that the Tie Down Belts are in good condition and not frayed or torn.
